Catching is a position like no other. The responsibilities of a catcher are probably greater than any other position with the possible exception of the pitcher. The skills required to execute those responsibilities are extremely diverse. The catching position requires constant the player to do things that are unnatural which is why it is important to work on those skills in the off-season.
The program will be run by Paul Hoover (bio) who most recently played for the Philadelphia Phillies before being invited to spring training for the Boston Red Sox in 2011. He was forced to retire due to a degenerative hip condition. He is now the catching instructor for Play Ball Sports Academy and managed the Gulf Coast Rays of the Gulf Coast league in Port Charlotte, Florida in 2012.
This four week program will focus on the correct fundamentals for the most basic skills such as:
Receiving
Footwork
Throwing
Blocking
Pop-ups

Be taught some drills to reinforce good mechanics of these skills
Receive personalized attention from Coach Hoover to make sure the camper understands the skill properly
Compete with other students to help sharpen their skills.
